What contributes to a life worth living?

Last October an influencer of mine, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a Hungarian American psychologist, passed away.  He wrote the book 'Flow: The Psychology of the Optimal Experience'.

“The best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times . . . The best moments usually occur if a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile”

(Csikszentmihalyi, 1990).

There is an idea that if you just had a bigger house or more money you would be happier.  However, it has been proven that once your basis needs are met, having more of the above does not guarantee happiness.  The ideal state of 'flow' comes when you are in the zone where your level of challenge and skills are equally matched. If you are too challenged it can cause anxiety or if you are not using your skills you are bored.  For example, watching Netflix every night is low challenge/ low...

New Year New You?

goals inspiration mindset nlp Jan 04, 2022
Welcome to my blog where you will find inspiration and actionable advice on how to improve your life using NLP.

As we mark the end of another challenging year we are all wondering what 2022 holds for us and our families. I have come to realise as we look ahead to the New Year that there is no idyllic 'post-pandemic' future.  Life is a constant process of change and evolution.  There is no return to a pre-pandemic 'normal'. Life will never be quite the same as there is no static normal.  As we all enter 2022, it's dawned on me and probably on you too, that this uncertainty is my life.  However, there is so much we can take control of.  For example, how we think and feel, how we react to our environment and how we choose to grow and develop so we can manage our personal journey with anticipation and motivation rather than fear.

I am guessing if you are like more than half of those who set New Year's resolutions, that you will lose...

A Christmas Gift From Team NLP

Well what a year it has been yet again...perhaps the difference this year is that many people are feeling that bit wearier and rather dazed after all we have been through.  We are seeing it in our corporate and personal clients who are finding it perhaps a little harder this year to pick themselves up and keep going.

At Team NLP, we have been very mindful of this and have been digging deeper into ourselves to stay focused, purposeful and optimistic about 2022.  We thought about the contribution we can make to support and help you embrace 2022 so you can future proof your life regardless of what might come your way.  We don't have all the answers but what we do have are a set of skills that make a difference to peoples' lives.

To this end, today we have launched our second Team NLP annual online conference called 'Future Proof Your Life'.  It is on the 22nd January between 10 - 2pm.  We have 6 members of Team NLP speaking at the conference. ...

Three Ways to Future Proof Your Life

When there is no turning back, then we should only concern ourselves with the

best way of going forwards

Paul Coelho

At Team NLP we are now gearing up to our conference on the 22nd January 2022 with the title 'How to future proof your life'.  We have six speakers, all members of Team NLP, who will be sharing their top tips on different areas of our lives as we move into uncertain territory again at the start of 2022.  More news about how to sign up next time!  For now keep the date clear!

I thought I would share a few of my early thoughts on the topic to get you thinking...  We often hear that with every challenge comes opportunity. If you have been waiting for a sign to make a change, the next normal may have sped it up for you.  It certainly has for me both in my personal and business life.

3 Tips to Practice

In an already fast-paced and often superficial social media world, the power of authenticity is increasingly gaining popularity....

How Can You Future Proof Your Life?

Well I am back after a few weeks away from blogging. This week I have chosen the theme of 'How can you Future Proof you Life'?  We hear from one of our Master Practitioners who has used NLP to do just that.  And, an important announcement.  So stick around for the whole event!  First let's hear from Rak...

My name is Rak Ladwa, I am a full-time landlord and investor and I’ve also just turned 50!  I chose NLP as a tool to help me overcome blocks from the past and limiting decisions in the present. I wanted to think more positively, to have focus, overcome daily challenges and also set my goals and ambitions for the future.

I’ve known for a long time that certain events from the past have always haunted me daily, events from my childhood, growing up in my teenage years and throughout my young adulthood. Recently in the last 10 years, I was challenged by family politics that's left me in a state that I had experienced growing up of...

One week to go to our next NLP Practitioner course

Would you like to learn how to be at your best most of the time?

My NLP journey started back in 1997 when I was a young senior manager at one of the top 4 consultancy firms wanting to make more of an impression amongst a sea of older male colleagues.  It was tough to find a way to be listened to and taken seriously.  Every time i tried to speak up at meetings my voice seemed to get drowned out.  I remember sharing this with my boss at the time and he said he had heard that 'Neuro Linguistic Programming'  was excellent for improving your communication skills.  I spoke to someone who had taken the Practitioner course and they thoroughly recommended it.  Mind you they warned me that I should only take the course if I was really serious about making changes in my life.  I must admit that I was really curious about this and I decided to sign up.

You realise that it is these moments of decision that change starts to take place and...

What gets in the way of you changing?

Welcome to our blog where you will find inspiration and actionable advice to build resilience and success in these unprecedented times.

I am often asked why is it so tough to make changes in your life?  So I thought this week I would do my best to explain what happens and what you can do about it.

In an ideal world behaviour change would happen like this…

‘’I know exercise is good for me

Therefore, I am going for a run’’

Wouldn’t it be great if as humans we react positively and change when we learn something that could be good for us?

But, more often we know that we should do something but we choose not to…

‘’I know exercise is good for me’’

‘’But I prefer to stay at home and watch Netflix’’

I am sure that we would all recognise this example.  Even when we understand that something would bring a positive reward, we still choose to do something else.  For example, in...

Moving onto reset

Welcome to our blog where you will find inspiration and actionable advice to build resilience and success in these unprecedented times.

This week I want to talk about moving on from 18 months of constant change and overwhelming restrictions in our lives.  Indeed, life is still full of challenges.  We have been attempting to get to Italy for many months now for a break, and just when we thought we could make our dash from the UK by car, France was put on the amber plus list.  This week France may come off but Italy may go onto the 'watch-list'.  It's exhausting isn't it!  So it is still likely to be some time before our lives can really 'reset'.  It's maybe time to remind ourselves about the link between our thoughts and our health and the fact that we can control our reaction to whatever is happening even if we can't control the event itself.

I had the pleasure to meet Candace Pert some years ago.  she wrote 'Molecules of...

Discovering NLP and emerging as a new me

goals inspiration nlp Jul 25, 2021

This week we have another guest blog from a member of Team NLP. Maria is one of our newly qualified Master Practitioners.  Over to Maria....

Ever since I did psychology A level I knew that one day I would be working with people, and helping people understand how their mind affects everything in their life. Back then I had never heard of NLP or coaching, and I didn’t know exactly in what capacity I’d be fulfilling my calling.

Fast forward 22 years and I look back on an exciting and rewarding career working in Digital Engineering, and I have especially enjoyed the increasing leadership responsibilities I have picked up over the last 10 years.

I heard about Neuro Linguistic Programming through my osteopath who had trained with Team NLP. After signing up to attend an intensive course in Spring 2020, Covid-19 happened and suddenly the world stood still. The amazing trainers at Team NLP did nothing but – they created an online version of the NLP Practitioner course...
