What does Netflix have to do with changing behaviour?

How are you? 

I was asked recently to appear as a guest in a podcast for 'Change Out Loud'.  I always find them such fun and this one was no exception.  The panelists Adnan and Kara asked me to speak about a topic which I love - 'What does it take to shift behaviour?' 

In an ideal world behaviour change would happen like this…

‘’I know exercise is good for me

Therefore, I am going for a run’’

Wouldn’t it be great if as humans we react positively and change when we learn something that could be good for us?

But, more often we know that we should do something but we choose not to…

‘’I know exercise is good for me’’

‘’But I prefer to stay at home and watch Netflix’’

Why is this?

As we begin to think about 2022 and what it will bring for us all, I thought it timely to have a bit of a refresh about the importance of your mindset and why it matters so much.  If you want to stand out for the right reasons in 2022 then read on.....

What is Mindset?

It is your way of thinking which is why it matters. 

In a word, it is your mental inclination or dispositionor your frame of mind.  Your mindset is your collection of thoughts and beliefs that shape your thought habits.  And your thought habits affect how you think, what you feel, and what you do.  Your mind-set impacts how you make sense of the world, and how you make sense of you.

So, your mindset is a big deal.  Have you ever thought about what you focus on?  Are you a glass half empty or glass half full type of person?  Are you reactive or proactive? Are you a radiator or drain on those around you?  Do you prefer to focus on the art of the possible...

How to make lasting change in a post-covid world

I was invited by a buddy of mine, Gerry Murray, who I met a few years ago whilst participating in a neuro science course, to join his pod cast to talk about how to create lasting change in a post-covid world.  I am full of admiration for Gerry as he has a weekly blog, and, it was his blog that inspired me to start writing a regular blog nearly two years ago now. 

We spoke for nearly an hour on the topic of change, both in organisations and for individuals because at the end of the day it is the individuals in organisations that create lasting change. I share my own personal story in terms of how I got to where I am today and I share many of my personal insights into what I have learnt along the way.  Gerry asked me about my book writing career and tips about how my first book 'Change Your Life with NLP' got published and how it made made a real difference to the lives of many people.
