Becoming more stoic in life - Team NLP

This week we lost our dearly beloved Queen.  The Queen has many times been described as 'stoic' so I thought I wold explore what this means and how we can use the mindset in our daily lives.  Psychology Today describes 'stoicism ' as doing good while staying calm, focusing on what’s important and under our control, not wasting thoughts let alone time on what we can't affect. The single most important practice in Stoic philosophy is differentiating between what we can change and what we cannot.

A flight is delayed because of bad weather — totally out of your control and no amount of yelling at an airline representative will end a storm.

No amount of wishful thinking will make you taller or shorter, in the same way that you cannot choose who your parents will be and where you will be born.

The time you spend in hurling yourself at these immovable objects is time not spent on the things we can change.

I suggest that you return to this question daily, in each and every trying situation and reflect on it constantly.

If you can focus on making clear what parts of your day are within your control and what parts are not, you will not only be happier, you will also have a distinct advantage over other people who fail to realise they are fighting an unwinnable battle.

In this next week with all the parallel feelings of sadness and new beginnings I wish you more stoicism and happiness in your life.

Warm wises
