What do you see in your life?
Jun 02, 2024Who did you see first in the picture? Did you see the young woman with the delicate nose or the older woman with the large chin? With this extra information can you now see both? The picture is an optical illusion which makes the point that you can be in the same situation with another person and yet you each see the situation completely differently. Can you remember a time when you experienced a situation like this? We often assume that others see the world as we do and yet they don't. In fact, no two people see the external world in exactly the same way as you do even if you were brought up in the same family. I am sure you have had an experience where you attended a family event and when you discussed it with a relative afterwards you began to wonder if you were even at the same event! What if everything that you experience is what you think it is: in other words, it is not a thing, but a think. The good news is that thoughts can be changed.
NLP teaches us:
- To remember not to jump to conclusions about anything until you hear and see other people's points of view.
- When people see things differently from you, that is the moment to stop and try to see what they see rather than reject it out of hand.
In our next NLP Practitioner programme which kicks off in September, we will learn how we all have different perspectives on situations which lead to mind-reads, assumptions and potential misunderstandings. This can lead to conflicting perspectives as no two people see the world in the same way. These are invaluable life-skills if you want to transform your communication skills and the results that you get. Or you are someone like a coach or a leader wanting to help others to change. Our course is held online with a mix of pre-study and live online group sessions. Find out more here:
